Lands of schist, the Cévenol valleys with their sweet-chestnut groves gently slope southwards, intercut by at times turbulent torrents that cascade down to the Mediterreanean.
The various Gardon rivers and the Hérault all have their springs on Mont Aigoual, “the water mountain”. Mont Aigoual, which is 1,565 m high at its summit, is the last mountain before the sea.
